Request for Submission/Review

The Sistah Circle Book Club, Inc. openly accepts solicited and unsolicited bound galleys or books titles by African American writers and writers of African decent, via authors, publicists, and publishers.  Acceptance is on a first come first serve basis as it concerns priority.

Titles submitted to The SCBC, Inc. should include the following:

• One review or galley bound book (manuscripts see below)

• One complete press kit*, which will include a book summary

• Be address to: The Sistah Circle Book Club, Inc. - Book Reviews (SCBC, Inc. is not responsible for books lost or damaged by the U.S. postal mail system or any other delivery system.  We make every effort to provide feedback as to when solicited books has been received.)

Titles should not be submitted that have a copyright and/or published date that exceeds one year from the current year. (Example: In 2008 title should have a copyright and/or published date of 2007.)

Books are submitted to The SCBC, Inc. with the understanding that materials will not be returned.  Authors and publishers have the right to decline submission to The SCBC, Inc.

*SCBC, Inc. will strictly enforce its requirement on submissions containing complete press kits.

Our Review Process

Books to be reviewed are submitted with a complete press kit to SCBC, Inc.  The book is given to a chapter member to complete the review.  Reviews can take from a minimum of two months to well over six months, considering the time in which the book arrives at the chapter (reading months vs. vacation months).  Books generally received prior to, or during the summer vacation months, (June to August) are often reviewed at a quicker pace.  Books receive during reading months, winter break (December and January), and January to May, may take more time to review.

Book reviews are submitted by SCBC members to SCBC Headquarters via an email form, where it is edited (as needed), and then posted on our website.  The review is then posted on the Internet at Amazon.com, as the SCBC, Inc. is an Amazon.com associate.  At anytime, an author has the right to request, via email, the full review (if unedited).  Generally, full reviews are posted both on the SCBC, Inc. website and Amazon.com.  SCBC, Inc. reserves the right to withhold posting a review to this site or on the Internet.

SCBC, Inc. retains the rights to all written reviews on this website and on printed titles.  At no time can reviews be altered without prior consent of the reviewer and SCBC, Inc.

Review Content

It is the intention for the SCBC, Inc. reviewer to give their open and honest opinion about a book that has been reviewed.  Book reviews posted on the Internet by SCBC, Inc. will not contain:

• A full summary of the book

• A full character summary

• Purchasing recommendations (deterring thereof)

Review Notice

SCBC, Inc. receives a high volume of books from self-published authors, independent/small press, publicists, and major publishing houses.  SCBC, Inc. makes a 100% effort to review all materials, regardless of publishing method.

SCBC, Inc. reviews the following genres by African American writers and writers of African decent:

• Fiction (contemporary, urban, and Christian)

• Non-fiction (including self-help and Christian titles)

• Romance

• Poetry

• Sci-Fi

• Mystery and Thrillers

SCBC, Inc. rate of reviews exceeds 60% of materials received (included self-published award titles).

Review Follow Up

We ask that follow ups regarding the progress of a book being reviewed, be made 60 to 90 days after date sent.  If after six months, a book has not been reviewed, it may still be in the review process or it may not be reviewed (immediately) due to high book volume.

Review of Manuscripts

SCBC, Inc. will limit the amount of manuscripts to be reviewed in a year to three (3).  SCBC, Inc. will accept manuscripts which are set to be published in the next (upcoming) 3 to 6 months. Advanced inquire required before submission.

CREDIT FOR REVIEW BLURBS

All material read for the sole purpose of submitting a review blurb, advanced praise, or other literary accolades to be printed on the cover or within the published book and sighted on websites; credit must be given in the following order:

SCBC, Inc. will not accept manuscripts for other purposes not listed here. We retain the right to decline to review a manuscript at anytime.
