SCBC Author Awards
A recognition
process that began in December 1999 for self-published African
American authors.
From the first awards presented in April 2000, The Sistah Circle Book
Club, Inc. has enjoyed reading many of the past and present self-published
authors and we continue to award their literary art and personal determination. Through
our award, we supported the creativity individuals possess for
writing.
Beginning in 2008, the SCBC will recognize mainstream authors as we
continue to support self-published authors.
We
are also looking to recognize three (3) determined and hard working independent,
self-published or very small press authors, with one (1) to be awarded the Michael W.
Catledge Author of the Year.
Additionally, SCBC will recognize two (2) mainstream
authors, with one (1) to be awarded the SCBC, Inc. Author of 2008.
All authors will receive a certificate for framing and
recognition on the SCBC. If applicable, a small monetary award
may be given to author of the year.

Self Published
Judging Criteria:
Title must be a single title, not an anthology or novella
Books released from
January 1 to
December 25 will be
judged.
Books
shall be sent to the attention of "SCBC SPA Awards" (no bound
manuscripts please) beginning April 1st of each award year.
Mainstream Judging Criteria:

Entrant must be an author who is African American or of African decent for
published award year

Title must be a single title, not an anthology or novella

Books released from
January 1 to
December 21 will be
judged.

Books
shall be sent to the attention of "SCBC Awards" (no bound
manuscripts or samples please) beginning April 1st of each award year
for the award year.
For all authors:

Book will be both title, cover, and content creative.

Votes
can be submitted by readers in the form of a summary review and rating.

Strict deadline for receiving book for awards will be December 1st
of each year

Awards will be announced online

fee goes toward SCBC's community service projects. Make checks or money orders
payable to
SCBC, Inc. Please do not send cash.
Books submitted for awards
become the property of SCBC, Inc. and are subject to be donated to local
charities, nonprofits, or libraries following the
award process.
