fiction...

Where are you from?
Cincinnati, Ohio
When did you first consider yourself a writer, a Christian writer?
I have been writing since I was a teenager, but never dared to dream it
was possible. Once I got saved and seriously pursued my purpose writing
became the obvious choice.
Why did you decide to become a
Christian writer?
During my tenure as a new member
counselor at my church it was my responsibility to walk with new and
seasoned saints. I discovered how difficult it was for people to make the
transition from the natural realm to the spiritual realm. Going to church,
reading the Bible, and attending classes was easy, application and
developing an intimate relationship with God appeared to be hard concepts
for many to grasp.
Are there Christian issues that you want to address in your writing?
Definitely. I would love for people to
understand that we cannot know ourselves apart from God. God has made the
provision for us to come to Him, but the truth is many of us do not know
how. This is what I would like to address in the books that I write.
What inspired you to pen your first novel?
After many years of working in Corporate
America I realized that a huge void
existed in my life. All of my physical needs were being met, but a lack
still
existed. I asked God to reveal the lack in my life. In short, I was not
fulfilling the purpose and destiny He had ordained for my life. God made
the provision for me to leave my job and after much prayer I realized that
I wanted to be a writer. It only seemed fitting that I write for Him.
How did you come up with the title?
As I wrote the book I had several
different titles. Before I sent the book
to the printers I knew that the book did not carry the title that He
wanted. I
had been in prayer throughout the entire process of writing the book, so I
asked Him to help me find a title. HEALING THE BREACH is the title
that was
confirmed in my spirit, and I pleased with the choice that I made.
Is there a message that you want readers to grasp?
In HEALING THE BREACH, I would
like readers to understand that the solutions
to life's problems should come from God, and not from us. It is important
to
apply God's Word, otherwise we become hearers, and not doers.
How do you feel about Self-Publishing?
I think self-publishing is a blessing.
Many large publishing houses are not
accustomed to hearing black voices. They don't understand our culture, our
humor, or our idiosyncrasies. For this reason most of our "successful"
brethren
started out as self-publishers and had to prove themselves through their
sales.
Without self-publishing many authors that we know of today would have been
silenced, Terry McMillan for one!
What are the benefits of self-publishing?
For me self-publishing was the only way
to go. I wanted to write about God and I didn't want anyone telling me
that a "Godly" book wouldn't sell. I have no
desire to titillate my audience. I believe that there is a contingent out
there
like me who consistently want to do and live better lives.
What are you currently working on?
Right now I am editing my second book
tentatively titled, PILLAR OF THE
COMMUNITY. This book deals with the unregenerated Christian who tries
to live her live from day saved. She makes the mistake that many
Christians make in not going back to clean up the messes that they made
prior to salvation.
What has been the most rewarding
aspect of writing your book?
The most rewarding aspect has been
customers emailing me and thanking me for writing the book. People seem to
get whatever they need out of the book. Some focus on the friendship
aspect, some on forgiveness, others on the iniquity issue, but all say
that the book really helped them to look not only at others who wronged
them, but also allowed them to look at themselves. As a writer, that
pleases me.
